Hawzah News Agency –Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi on Sunday.
Emphasizing that history has proven that the bond between the people of Iran and Afghanistan is a kind of kinship, Amir Abdollahian said that the zealous efforts of the people of Afghanistan showed that no foreign power can occupy and rule Afghanistan.
Referring to the positive remarks made by Taliban leaders regarding formation of an inclusive government, he stressed the need to provide acceptable indicators in this regard.
He pointed to Iran’s humanitarian aid to the suffering people of Afghanistan, saying Iran will also use regional capacities for further assistance to alleviate Afghans’ problems.
Iranian top diplomat underlined that Afghanistan’s frozen assets by the United States should be released for humanitarian reasons and to help improve the economic situation for Afghans.
Commemorating the Iranian diplomats who were martyred in Mazar-e-Sharif, Amir Abdollahian highlighted the responsibility of the governing body of Afghanistan to protect diplomatic missions.
Meanwhile, the Afghan delegation presented a report on the process of countering ISIS and other terrorist groups, as well as policies related to countering drug production and trafficking in Afghanistan in the new Afghan government.
Appreciating Iran’s hospitality toward the Afghan immigrants during the last 43 years, Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized the commonalities between the two nations.
He stressed that Iran has always stood by Afghanistan and the new Afghan government emphasizes that it is not against any of the neighboring countries.
Referring to US cruelties against Afghan people, he said: “Although the United States withdrew from Afghanistan with a disgraceful defeat, it still continues its policies against the Afghan people, and as a result of these policies, 80% of the Afghan people are below the poverty threshold.
Both sides also discussed Iran’s water share in Hirmand River and the Afghan side emphasized its respect for international treaties, including the 1351 Helmand Agreement.
Afghan party stated the technical delegations (water commissioners) of the two countries will meet and resolve related issues soon.
